Survey Report: Impact of COVID-19 in Taiwan - November 2021

As different brands of vaccine arrived the island one after another, 90% of Taiwanese have gotten their first dose while a few still have not been vaccinated because they worry about the side effects. Therefore, being fully vaccinated against COVID has become the national consensus.

Key findings

    • 32% of internet users expect to spend less in the coming month.

    • Dining/entertainment has become the category with the most budget growth, which has gone up by 40%. On the other hand, the budget for medicine/health supplements, household goods and packaged foods has also increased by more than 30%.

    • For Taiwanese internet users aged 18-60, as many as 89% have got their first dose against COVID, while 39% have received the 2nd shot.

Recommendations

It appears that the stay at home lifestyle has gradually become the new normal and the consumption patterns shaped by its influence are becoming ordinary for businesses. Since the quintuple stimulus voucher program has rolled out, businesses should lay out strategies for consumers to alter their budget allocation and spur spending on non-necessities.
