Survey Report: Impact of COVID-19 in Taiwan - October 2021

We can assume Taiwanese in general think the COVID situation has improved a lot, but they are being rather cautious and conservative about the future. Earlier this year, women's vaccination intent was rather low, but now both genders show no much difference in the intent and percentage. Based on we can say being vaccinated against COVID has become the national consensus.

Key findings

    • 32% of Internet users expect to spend less in the coming month.

    • Medicine/health supplements still accounts for the largest part of people's budget. Moreover, household goods and packaged foods also see growth in budget by more than 30%.

    • For Taiwanese Internet users aged 18-60, as many as 56% has got their first dose against COVID, while 10% have received the 2nd dose.

Recommendations

The stay at home lifestyle has gradually become the new normal and the consumption patterns shaped by its influence are the new ordinary for businesses. With the rollout of the quintuple stimulus voucher program, businesses should lay out strategies for consumers, aiming at altering their budget allocation and spurring spending on non-necessities.
